I repeated the "Me on the Map" project that goes along with our anthology story. I got the project from Finally In First, they turned out really cute. I took my kids pictures in front of the US map in the classroom and hung up a bulletin board in the hallway that hopefully I can get away with leaving up for the rest of the year...shhhhhh.
Of course this was the week I had 8 kids absent, so we're still missing a few!
For Valentine's Day we made "Owl Always Love You" Valentines inspired by my personal fave Babbling Abby at The Inspired Apple. This was the day I had to leave early to take Will to the hospital so our grade level aide ran the project and they still turned out pretty cute. After I took the pictures, I added their school picture to the hearts. I hope the families liked them!
On Friday, we learned about President's Day and as always, the kids are shocked to learn that someone shot Abraham Lincoln. We completed this craft that I also found on a blog but can't give credit to, I'm sorry! I like this project because it's a 2 for 1 and requires the kids to follow directions, something my class isn't particularly skilled at. BUT we're working on it!
I'm thinking Common Core may want to reevaluate money not being a First grade standard because when we added the penny to Abe and quarter to George, they were calling it the "big penny" and the "litte penny" and didn't know what color to color them...sheesh!
This week we're reading "My Robot" and I asked the kids to make their own robots at home and bring them in to present. I did this last year and they turned out cute. We'll see what they come up with this time!
I skipped Flat Stanley this year because it is so much work and I just don't have the time to keep up with it. I'm sad about it but whatareyougonnado?
March is just around the corner and I usually "Seuss it up" starting off with Read Across America. The kids always love all of the books and I have some fun activities that I used in summer school that we can use.
Hopefully the busier we are, the faster the year will go by! And the countdown continues...62 school days until the end of the year!!!
